New Mid-Size PCAP LCD Modules Offer High Image Quality and Robust Design for Industrial, Medical Equipment

NLT Technologies, together with its sales and marketing channel in Europe, Renesas Electronics Europe GmbH, announced the successful development of three mid-size color LCD modules based on projected capacitive (PCAP) touch panel technology.

The 10.4-inch XGA, 10.6-inch WXGA and 12.1-inch WXGA LCD modules offer the increased durability, smooth operator interface, multi-touch function and clear image quality required for use in touch-panel displays designed for industrial applications, such as factory automation and test and measurement, as well as medical equipment.

“The demand for touch-panel capabilities in the industrial and medical markets continues to expand, and PCAP technology provides the additional durability, clear image quality, and multi-touch capabilities required for displays operating in these rugged environments,” said Hideto Tachimoto, Senior Manager LCD Product Unit within Renesas Electronics Europe. “The addition of PCAP to our display technology family, strengthens our total display solutions, with factory installed touch, and helps customers meet the unique design demands for their respective markets.”

The new PCAP technology complements NLT Technologies’ current touch-panel capabilities, which includes original surface capacitive (ON-Cell) and resistive touch panel technologies. In order to augment the value offered to our customers, NLT Technologies is developing the PCAP technology with multiple value add options such as surface films, cover glass and optical bonding. As part of its total cost of ownership (TCO) strategy, which includes long-term product support, NLT and Renesas are supplying not only the LCD module with touch panel and touch panel controller as part of the PCAP LCD Module set, but also providing support for customer set up.

NLT Technologies continues to promote the research and development of touch panel technology, and aims to expand their touch panel production lineup as well as develop new applications for the company’s primary markets.
