At electronica 2018, TSC presents its newly AEC-Q101 qualified “Load Dump”-TVS diodes in DO-218AB package

Taiwan Semiconductor Co., Ltd. (TSC) launches its 3,600/4,600/6,600 watts high power surge capability uni-directional TVS diodes in DO-218AB package. This gives automotive customers a second source option to consider with storage capacities and logistics services within Europe. The supply chain setup for European customers guarantees fast and reliable deliveries anywhere in the world. With this step, the company continues in its development to become one of the preferred suppliers for discrete devices in the automotive industry.

Production capacities of TSC are able to cover already 7% of the worldwide demand for TVS-diodes in a DO-218AB package

The TLD5S/6S/8S product range meets ISO7637-2 and ISO16750-2 standards and guarantees a reliable thermal performance up to TjMAX=+175°C. The portfolio contains more than 50 new part numbers with a working stand-off voltage in a range of from 10V to 43V and a clamping capability from 17V to 69.4V. The “Load Dump”-series of TSC is AEC-Q101 qualified and produced on fully automated production lines for both front and backend utilizing a clean room infrastructure.

Since 1979, TSC is renowned for its specialization in discrete devices for consumer and industrial applications. Within the last five years, the company has made large investments in its production plants and quality management to comprehensively meet the requirements of the automotive industry. The launch of the new Load Dump series is the first of many parts developed and manufactured under the new quality framework. The development process took place in close cooperation with our customers and contains complex simulation models in order to cover different temperature fluctuations. Today, TSC is one of the few sources that delivers the “Load Dump” TVS diodes in a DO-218AB package with AEC-Q101 qualification. The production capabilities of TSC are already able to cover 7% of the worldwide demand. Additional capacity expansions are already being planned.

Strong growth in automotive

Electromobility is driving further growth at TSC. Currently a new power package for onboard-charger is in development, based upon customer specific requirements. Consequently, TSC market position changes from a former pure commodity supplier towards a solution-driven partner within the automotive industry. Ralf Welter, Managing Director of Taiwan Semiconductor Europe GmbH and responsible for the European Market states: „Our investments in the automotive industry has paid off and we have grown our business in this segment by 20% in 2018 compared to 2017 in the European market.“ The strong growth is not only due to the recent production facility investments. Since 2002, TSC has continuously expanded its sales offices in Europe and the USA and offers its customers both customer service and local logistics services. This local presence is still a key advantage compared to other Asian manufacturers of discrete devices.
